Gotu kola also known as Centella asiatica, is a red-flowered herb that grows abundantly in hot, swampy areas of Southeast Asia, India, and Sri Lanka. Gotu kola is also grows in tropical and sub-tropical parts of Australia, southern Africa, and South America (such as in the southern United States). Gotu kola has a long history of use in Ayurvedic medicine (the traditional medicine of India). Gotu kola should not be confused with the caffeine-containing kola nut, used in original recipes for Coca-Cola. The kola nut contains caffeine and is a stimulant.
